2009 NHL Draft
OK, there's lots of things coming up very soon in the NHL. The draft this Friday, the free agency deadline next week and of course, the auction for who's going to gain control of the Phoenix Coyotes.
Now, I believe the Islanders will take John Tavares 1st overall. If they don't, they'll become a laughing stock of the NHL(along with Gary Bettman. Geez, I can't just leave the poor guy alone!) Of course, Brian Burke has been known to have more than a few tricks up his sleeve.
The free agent market. With so many teams in need of rebuilding, I'm going to break down Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto.
Ottawa is having enough problems with Dany Heatley. "Heater" has become a real pain in the ass. Face it, he's done with the team and rightfully so. The fans don't want it and the team doesn't need any distractions. Cory Clouston has to prove himself. He's a good coach and this year we'll see a tougher more meaner Ottawa unit. My prediction is this will be Jason Spezza's final year with club and somehow, some way, might end up with Hemsky. Plus, there's some mighty faces in the free agent market such as Bowmeester hmmn?
Montreal is getting a face lift. Kovalev will be out but expect Tanguay to stay. Jacques Martin will bring the French pride back into La Belle Province. Stanley Cup Champions 2011 Nice ring to that,eh? Oh, and what about the Sedin twins???
Toronto to Burke to Wilson=2010 Eastern Conference Finals
Last week's poll winner was Mike Bossey as the greatest player of all time. Surprising, but not really considering that he only played ten years.

Keep your stick on the ice, eh.

Balsillie loses bid to bring Hamilton NHL team
Judge Baum brought down the hammer on Balsillie's third attempt to bring an NHL team to Hamilton.
Balsillie offered 212 million for the Phoenix Coyotes and now the NHL feels that paying too much for a hockey team is not the right thing to do. Again, in my previous posts; either Bettman knows something that everyone else doesn't, or he's just a real idiot. Thank God everyone booed him when he presented the Stanley Cup to Pittsburgh.
Ok, here's a challenge to the CBC; boycott every game played against American teams from the sun belt.. Let's prove to Bettman that nobody north of the border cares at all(I have the urge to write something obscene) about hockey in the south.
Hey, the CFL didn't last when they expanded to the States and so hockey won't last either if it continues to be played in Phoenix.
Maybe Bettman has some back door dealings with the city of Glendale, but I smell a rat within all these proceedings.
Everyone who loves hockey needs to show their support and get Gary Bettman to step down. I think he needs an Intervention(watch the show Mondays at 9 on A & E)

Pittsburgh Penguins win the Stanley Cup
That's right folks, the Penguins fought hard and fought well to defeat the Detroit Red Wings in the 7th game of the Stanley Cup final. Maxime Talbot netted two goals and what Don Cherry(Kingston Boy) said in the intermission that it's the grinders that win games. Sidney Crosby took a nasty hit to the knee, but came back in the third period although only played 32 seconds. We hope it's not too serious.
Evgeni Malkin won the Conn Smythe and well deserved. Congratulations!!!!!
What a great hockey season and raise your glass to next year!!!
