The beauty of blogging is that it presents a forum for any rant or rave. As all of you are aware, the NHL is in a huge state of flux. It needs repair and here's how it'll get done:
1. Draft lottery(They've all ready incorporated it and it is working beautifully)
2. TV deal with Europe. European players want to see their prospective job market. It makes sense, right? Bowling ranks higher in the US in the television market so why would Bettman insist that all is well with the NHL?
3. Change the playoff format from the top eight in each conference to the top sixteen overall. This would provide more competitiveness and a chance for Montreal vs Toronto in the finals. Sure there are drawbacks, but each team would try harder for home ice advantage because let's face it, Vancouver vs Florida in the first round would be a drain on the pocket books.
4. More teams in Canada. I don't need to explain this any further.
5. Combining the All-Star game and the Winter Classic. This would create a more entertaining scenerio because regular season games are important and the television viewership would more than likely double in the US. Fans want to see the star players.
So in conclusion, Mr. Bettman, I don't know exactly why you decide what you decide, but you need to put a shot in the arm of the NHL(not steroids) to fix it. Give the fans what they want and not the New Orleans Levees probably your next expansion team. Whoops, gave him an idea.
